Lark Health | AI coaching

Progress & rewards

Project summary

Lark’s coaching app combines health tracking and AI coaching to help patients manage chronic conditions and meet health goals. In this project I designed a suite of features that were aimed at increasing user engagement, improving long- and short-term patient outcomes for enrolled users, and enhancing the effectiveness of the AI coach experience. These features would eventually be rolled out across all programs.

The challenge

Through user research and patient reported outcomes we learned that tracking progress, tasks and goals was challenging for patients in the Lark app. Much of the coaching content was delivered through a conversational interface, which could not be referenced once a conversation ended. Users had to rely on their memory of these interactions to recall specific to-dos and keep track of their progress over time.

Through this design initiative I set out to challenge the ways we currently delivered coaching content in the Lark app and explore how we can more efficiently and effectively help users to track and make daily progress towards achieving their health goals.

Project goals

  • Provide users with a way to view their overall program progress and progress toward completing weekly and daily tasks

  • Build features that give users autonomy around reaching their health goals

  • Increase engagement with core program features that are proven to lead to patient success such as meal logging, mission completion and weight tracking

  • Evaluate and improve existing program progress tracking features

  • Decrease customer support tickets and build user engagement by giving eligible users a way to track their progress towards program rewards within the app
